She has taught quilting classes and workshops for years in venues from local quilt shops to fine arts venues to QuiltCon. Melissa will be presenting her lecture Appropriation or Appreciation?

Cultural appropriation in quilting. What is it and how do we recognize it? In this presentation, Melissa will walk students through a detailed explanation about how to think about culture in design, best uses, how to appreciate and be inspired responsibly and how to build a quilt community that is more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive.
